CRES Director Dr. Michael Sykuta today announced the hiring of John Fougere, of Columbia, as the Center’s new Senior Strategic Communications Consultant. Fougere joins CRES with nearly 30 years of experience in public and media relations, including previous service with the University of Missouri System. In his new role, he will lead all CRES communications strategies, including media relations, executive speechwriting, website content and social media.
During his career, Fougere has lead communications teams in such varied areas as public safety, Missouri law, the Missouri economy, and higher education. Prior to coming to CRES, he served as Public Information Officer for the Missouri Department of Corrections; Press Secretary to Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon; Director of Communications for the Missouri Department of Economic Development; Chief Communications Officer for the University of Missouri System, and as Vice-President of Media Relations at William Woods University. Before working in public and media relations, Fougere also worked as a reporter/anchor in radio and television. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia (Master’s in Broadcast Journalism) and Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts (Bachelor’s in English/History).
